Switchover Underspend Leaves £250m in the pot PDF Print E-mail

The BBC has suggested that a £250m underspend in the digital switchover might be used to cut the TV license fee.

Some £803m was set aside for the switchover help scheme and public information campaigns, but a lower-than-expected takeup of the scheme has resulted in an underspend of around £250m.

According to Digital Spy, BBC director general Mark Thompson raised the possibility of the underspend being "clawed back in future reduced license fee rates."
